‘I was crying’ Fordyce residents describe shock of mass shooting at grocery store

FORDYCE, Ark. – The shock of a mass shooting that took three lives and injured several others in Fordyce has left the community shaken.

Police identified the suspect in the shooting as 44-year-old Travis Posey of New Endinburg, Arkansas. The shooting took place at a grocery store in town, leaving a population of barely over 3,000 people shocked.

“I was crying. I was nervous. I was having a breakdown,” Amiya Doherty said.

“I never saw something like this happening in Fordyce, Arkansas,” Otis Allen, a resident of Fordyce for 60 years, said.

Krenisha McWilliams has lived in the city for over 30 years said she’s never had to “worry about stuff like this happening in our town because it never happens.”

“I just keep thinking in my head, ‘Why?’”  Doherty said, who added that she was in the parking lot during the shooting. “He shot at my mama’s car.”

Many people describe the scene as a scene out of a horror movie.

Doherty said as the shooting was taking place she feared for her life.

“I was praying and holding my sister’s hand because I was scared,” Doherty said.

Posey was booked into the Ouachita County Jail for three counts of Capital Murder. Additional charges are pending.
