Cyclist killed in North Kingstown, driver arrested for DUI. What to know.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A 53-year-old North Kingstown woman was killed Thursday night when she was struck by a Jeep while riding a tricycle-style bike on Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown police said.

A retired Providence police officer, Daniel J. Famiglietti, 59, of Warwick, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the crash, police said. Famiglietti served with the Providence Police Department for about 34 years before retiring in January 2022, a police spokesperson confirmed.

The woman, identified as Linda Sherman, was hit from behind while riding north in the breakdown lane on Boston Neck Road near the intersection of Earle Drive shortly before 7 p.m.

The cyclist was taken by North Kingstown ambulance to Kent Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the police said.
