NWS Hanford’s advisory said high temperatures of 102 to 108 degrees are expected throughout the San Joaquin Valley, west side mountains, the lower Sierra foothills and the Kern River Valley.

Forecasters said temperatures would remain high in evening and overnight hours into Monday morning. “The heat risk will remain moderate to high during these hours,” the weather service’s advisory said. Nighttime lows are expected to be in the mid- to upper-70s in Bakersfield.

How does heat kill? It confuses your brain. It shuts down your organs. It overworks your heart.

With forecasted temperatures above 100 degrees, there is a higher risk of heat-related illness.

Officials urge residents remain in an airconditioned room, drink plenty of water, reduce time in the sun and outdoor activities, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
