Danville students receive Young Samaritan scholarships

Jun. 21—DANVILLE — Two members of The Young Samaritans received scholarships honoring their time, talent and commitment to the Danville Area High School club.

Alaina Soza and Isabella Gonzalez-Jenkins received this year's Young Samaritans Serving Heart Scholarship.

Danville's Young Samaritans club was officially established by the school board in 2022 after the volunteer-based high school group associated with The Good Samaritan Mission was founded in 2020, according to a press release.

The group continues to promote community service and create volunteer opportunities for students in the school through community events or at The Good Samaritan Mission store, the press release said.

The club has also planned fundraising opportunities to benefit the scholarship fund of The Bigger Opportunities Program — a program of The Good Samaritan Mission serving students in the Danville Area School District and Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and its very own Serving Heart Scholarship fund, according to the mission.
