Dario G star Paul Spencer vowed to 'defeat' his cancer just weeks before his death aged 53

Dario G DJ Paul Spencer shared a positive health update just weeks before his death aged 53.

The DJ and producer, who was known for songs including Carnaval De Paris, Sunchyme and Ring Of Fire, passed away following a battle with rectal cancer.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today,” the musician's family said as they announced the news on social media.

“He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore. He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people.

“He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him. Shine bright our big star.”

Spencer, a Crewe native, revealed his stage 4 rectal cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post last June and had been documenting his health battle on social media.

The DJ had been admitted to Manchester’s The Christie Hospital earlier in May and given IV antibiotics 16 to 18 hours per day to fight off a bad infection.

Two weeks later, the music star shared a beaming selfie and revealed that he was going to enjoy “ a little rest and recoup” after heartbreakingly vowing that he felt he had “the energy to defeat” his cancer fully as he overcame the infection.

He wrote on May 25: “I’m Out Out! At last. Has Anything of interested happened in the outside world from the past month?

“I know you’ve been all been showing overwhelming support, love and strength for me. And countless others like me. I hope and pray everyone gets their best opportunity. Thank you.

“I’m infection free now but feel I already have the energy to defeat this fully with the next stages , even though a little rest and recoup time might appreciated.”

Sadly, Spencer lost his battle on Monday. Tributes have poured in since news of his death was announced.

Spencer previously revealed his diagnosis an Instagram post last June - and shared that doctors had also found a shadow on his liver.

He wrote: “Hard to write this. I've just found out that I've got stage 4 rectal cancer and a shadow on my liver.

“That's damn hard to read too I'm sure. Gonna give it my best shot though. Stay positive, cos I am. Always. Seeing the doctors on Friday to discuss the next steps.”

In a video from January, Spencer said his cancer had grown in his liver and had also spread to his lungs.
