'Will be dearly missed': Funeral services announced for West Bridgewater police officer

WEST BRIDGEWATER — Funeral arrangements have been announced for Officer Michael Kominsky, a 29-year veteran of the West Bridgewater Police Department who died Monday, June 17, after a after a long battle with cancer.

Kominshky, who grew up in West Bridgewater, served as a police officer for the West Bridgewater Police Department for 29 years and was the son of former Police Chief Robert Kominsky.

"Michael loved the West Bridgewater community and all those he served," his obituary states.

Kominsky was a highly decorated officer and held badge #1 as the most senior patrol officer with the department, West Bridgewater Police Chief Timothy Nixon said in a written statement Monday.

According to his obituary, Kominsky was a "true outdoorsman" and an "avid hunter and fisherman and had a passion for golfing."

"Michael also loved spending time with his family and friends," his obituary states.

Medals for valor and saving a life

Earlier this month, Kominsky was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for over 29 years of service, Nixon said. In 2021, Kominsky was awarded the Medal of Valor for heroics he displayed in the apprehension of a murder suspect wanted out of Boston. In 2014, Kominsky was awarded the Life Saving Medal for reviving and rescuing a man who was trapped in an underground sewer.

"He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues," his obituary states.

Kominsky is survived by his wife, Kelly Kominsky; his children, Michael Kominsky Jr. "MJ" and Madison Kominsky, both of Middleboro; his father, Robert Kominsky Sr. of West Bridgewater; his siblings, Robert Kominsky Jr. of Germany, Mark Kominsky of Kentucky, Kevin and his wife Lisa Kominsky of West Bridgewater, and many nieces and nephews, according to his obituary.

Funeral services

Public calling hours will be held on Monday, June 24, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., West Bridgewater.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kominsky's memory to the 100 Club of Massachusetts at 100clubmass.org.

"Michael’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and love for life will continue to inspire all who knew him," his obituary states. "May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts and memories."
