Deputies: 2 hurt in crash on I-96 near Coopersville

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say two people were hurt Saturday in a crash on I-96 in Wright Township.

It happened around 4:55 p.m. on eastbound I-96 near mile marker 21, which is near 32nd Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say highway traffic was slowing down, but a 69-year-old Kentwood man failed to slow down and ultimately rear-ended a car driven by a 37-year-old Muskegon man.

Then, the car driven by the Muskegon man went sideways and hit a car driven by a 21-year-old Nunica woman, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say the Kentwood man complained of injuries, and his passenger, a 40-year-old Kentwood woman, was also hurt. The Kentwood woman was taken to the hospital.

The Muskegon man and his passenger were not injured, according to the sheriff’s office. Likewise, the Nunica woman was not hurt, and there were no passengers in her car, deputies told News 8.

Eastbound I-96 was closed for about an hour and a half as deputies investigated.
