Deputies: Motorcyclist killed after crashing into fallen tree

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed after hitting a fallen tree near Bloomingdale.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report on Monday of a motorcyclist who had crashed into a large tree that had fallen across 48 1/2 Street near County Road 388 in Columbia Township.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find a 38-year-old Columbia Township area man who had died. It’s unknown how long he had been before deputies found him, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. There were skid marks in the dirt road around 40 feet before the point of impact, the sheriff’s office said.

The motorcyclist’s name has not been released.
