At some point, one officer opened fire at the suspect, hitting him at least one time. Police rendered aid to the man at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital.

“The firearm was later determined to be a replica of a Glock pistol,” Newark Police Department Captain Jolie Macias said. “It is identical to a standard-issue Glock pistol.”

The man is expected to survive, according to authorities. He was identified as a 34-year-old Newark man.
