DENVER (KDVR) — April 1 marks the biggest practical joke day of the year, and Colorado officials and the City of Denver are participating in the fun.

While these were April Fools’ Day jokes, they might have sparked some interesting ideas.

New line of Colorado-themed shoes

Gov. Jared Polis posted on X about a new Colorado sneaker line.

Many Coloradans know me for my signature blue sneakers or my Colorado-themed sneakers, they are an important part of my daily attire, especially as I travel across the state to visit with Coloradans. Now, I’m thrilled to launch my own line of shoes so that every person can experience comfort without sacrificing style. This shoe line isn’t about me, it’s an ode to the Colorado way of life. With an affordable shoe for every lifestyle, you can choose the style that works best for you while showcasing your love for Colorado.

If you fell for it, that’s OK — the state of Colorado really went all out with the joke and even released pictures of the fake shoe line.

While the shoe line isn’t real, some people on X still loved the idea.

“dude some of these go hard; launch!” commented one user.

“Ah!! April Fools! Would be a great way to raise money for children’s programs,” commented another.

Polis isn’t the only one participating in the April 1 fun.

Denver: The 1.6-kilometer-high city

Mayor Mike Johnston released a 2-minute-long video on X reporting that the city is changing to the metric system.

He says there will be changes around the city, including the mile-high marker, which is changed to the 1.6-kilometers-high marker. The speed limit signs and the steps up are next.

While he doesn’t directly say it’s an April Fools’ joke, the photoshopped speed limit signs and the unrealistic T-shirt and mug that said that Denver is the 1.6-kilometer city gave the mayor away.

Commerce City’s warrant forgiveness

The Commerce City Police Department also posted on X about a one-day-only deal. The department posted that for the first time ever, the police will wipe your record clean if you head to the police department.

Along with the deal, the police will also place you in handcuffs, take your picture and transport you to jail, which is all part of the celebration, the police tweeted.

Purgatory Resort’s avalanche rescue cat

Purgatory Resort went as far as an entire photoshoot with this adorable kitty.

The press release calls the cat Scout, who is the newest addition to the ski patrol team helping out in avalanche rescues.

This is also an adorable April Fools’ joke.

Denver International Airport’s driveway to runway service

The Denver International Airport spent extra time on its April Fools’ joke, which comes with a link and website with more information about a new, made-up service called Screen&Ride.

The airport calls it America’s first driveway-to-runway service where airport screening can be done at a pick-up location and the ride will take you to the airline gate.

While many X users picked up on the joke, many didn’t think this was a bad idea.

“Too bad it’s not real. I’d pay for that,” commented one user.

“That’s actually a great idea. They won’t really do it, but it’s a great idea,” commented another.
