Driver injured in hit-and-run crash

ELKHART — Police were looking for the driver of a vehicle that slammed into the back of another vehicle and fled the scene, a crash that sent the other driver to the hospital.

Deputies were called at 3:40 p.m. Thursday to C.R. 26 and C.R. 9, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office said.

An unknown vehicle believed to be a silver Honda was traveling south on C.R. 9 when it rear-ended a 2024 Hyundai Venue and fled the scene east on C.R. 26, the report said.

The other driver, John Simpson, 43, of Elkhart, told police he was stopped at the four-way stop when he was rear-ended by the Honda. The vehicle left the scene before police arrived.

Simpson was transported to the hospital with pain in his neck, back and legs.
