A dry and comfy Saturday night; Dry start to Sunday sees showers and storms build in

Tonight, our evening starts with a slight chance for showers, mainly across the mountains. We’ll lose any leftover energy with the loss of the sun, with the overnight maintaining a mostly clear look. Look forward to a calm overnight as we deal with a light southwest wind and temps dropping into the 60s.

Sunday morning should start off very calm as clouds build in from the north. A cold front will start to move in during the late afternoon, early evening, as temps reach into the 80s. A few storms could put up some hefty downpours and one or two could be on the strong side, with damaging winds being the biggest threat up to our north. Thunderstorm chances should wane during the overnight as we lose the sun.

Monday starts with a few showers passing through the morning, but the bulk of showers should be done by dawn. While a lingering light shower is possible until lunchtime across the mountains, most of us are drying out at this point. The afternoon will feature sunshine and a much easier drive home as we see our ‘coolest’ day yet in the low 80s.

Tuesday continues where Monday left off as we see another day of sunshine. Highs pressure moves in and blankets our area for Tuesday, providing us with mostly sunny skies. After a mild morning in the 50s, we should see afternoon temps in the middle 80s. Clouds will build in overnight as another cold front arrives Wednesday.

Wednesday brings in a new cold front, starting with a few showers in the morning. As our front moves down to the southeast, showers will become more scattered and widespread in the afternoon. A few thunderstorms also can’t be ruled out with afternoon highs pushing into the 80s. The chance for showers will continue into the overnight.

Beckley, much of southern WV on pace for driest June ever

Thursday morning begins with a few isolated showers but nothing widespread. As the last remaining bits of our cold front depart during the morning, we’ll go from a cloudy morning to a mostly sunny afternoon. Cool, northern winds will help in making the afternoon a little comfier as temps stay in the 80s.

Friday sees high pressure build in once again, providing us with a dry a calm morning drive. We’ll start in the 60s, slowly pushing into the 70s by lunchtime and eventually into the 80s by dinnertime. Not much in the way of active weather for Friday so enjoy the calm evening if you have plans.

Saturday will give us a great start to the weekend, at least during the morning with mostly sunny skies. We’re keeping an eye on a low pressure system that will move in during the weekend, with a warm front giving us the chance for an isolated shower during the afternoon and evening. Most look to be dry at this point, which will help get temps in the 80s.
