Eastern Oregon University honored at Governor's State Employees Food Drive awards ceremony

La GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University was among the honorees at an awards ceremony following the 2024 Governor’s State Employees Food Drive.

The ceremony, which took place to recognize the contributions of various state agencies and universities, highlighted Eastern Oregon University's participation in the early spring food drive. The university was awarded second place for Most Meals Per Employee. The collective efforts of all participating agencies and universities resulted in the procurement of millions of meals for Oregon's hungry.

According to an announcement from the university, leading the charge at EOU were Matt Gougherty, assistant professor of sociology, Jennifer Puentes, associate professor of sociology, and EOU student Mat Page.

Contributions from Eastern Oregon University's faculty and staff totaled 83 pounds of food and $3,984, equal to 12,014 meals. This translates to each participating employee helping to feed 34 people, stated the press release.

Additionally, the event honored individual 'Food Drive Heroes' for their unwavering dedication and efforts in supporting the food drive. Among the recognized individuals were Kristie Hardy and Spencer Ellis from the Oregon Department of Transportation, Dillon Neumann from the Oregon Department of Forestry, and Juan Morales from the Oregon Department of Human Services.
