CFD determines south Charlotte 2-alarm fire was intentional

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A south Charlotte two-alarm fire that seriously injured one person has been determined as intentional by the Charlotte Fire Department.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the fire occurred around 6:25 p.m. on Friday, June 21, in the 1600 block of Sharon Road West, near Regent Park Lane. There was heavy smoke and flames showing upon arrival at the two-story building.

Within minutes of CFD crews’ arrival, a second alarm was struck to bring additional resources to the scene. After reports of someone trapped in the building, firefighters rushed in to rescue one occupant. That occupant has been transported with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital.

As of now, there are no other reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The fire was controlled in 51 minutes. There was substantial damage to this building.

Eight units were affected by the fire.

On Saturday morning, CFD said the fire was intentionally set. It is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
