Ellenville woman in critical condition affter electric scooter hit by vehicle

ELLENVILLE - An Ellenville woman is in critical but stable condition after the electric scooter she was riding was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night.

Ellenville village police said the collision happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Center Street and Route 209.

Police who responded to the scene of what was originally reported as a car and pedestrian crash found the woman, later identified as Shamica Bell, 36, of Ellenville, lying in the roadway with serious injuries.

Bell was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Ellenville Rescue Squad and then flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

According to police, Bell was traveling south on Route 209 on an electric scooter when she was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Center Street. She was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The impact of the collision threw Bell off her scooter, and she struck her head on the windshield of the vehicle.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but police said the crash is still under investigation,

The Ellenville Fire Department and state police assisted Ellenville police at the scene.
