Embrace Hospice House, Conway Medical Center Foundation honor fallen veterans

CAROLINA FOREST, S.C. (WBTW) — Embrace Hospice House in Carolina Forest welcomed patients, families, and staff Friday morning to honor their 31 most recently fallen veterans.

The memorial began with a presentation of the colors. Then, relatives and friends of the fallen veterans read the Pledge of Allegiance together.

Embrace’s staff shared how they honor veterans, not just in ceremony, but also in their daily lives.

“Every time I’m around a veteran, no matter where they’re from, or no matter what service they were in, I always say ‘welcome home’ and ‘thank you,'” Spiritual Care Coordinator Fuzzy Lake said.

After receiving a donation from the Conway Medical Center Foundation, Embrace dedicated engraved pavers to its newly fallen veterans. These pavers now lay with others in Embrace’s courtyard.

“At the very end of the quilt of valor presentation, the gentleman doing the presentation said ‘Will anybody in the military please stand up and salute this gentleman getting this quilt of valor?'” Lake said. “I hadn’t seen Henry stand on his own in six or eight months. But Henry did everything in his power to stand up out of that chair and salute that gentleman getting the quilt of valor.”
