Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has teased a potential return to the Dales.

Thomas played Adam Barton in the soap for nine years before exiting in 2018. In his final storyline, Adam tried to cover for his mum Moira by confessing to the murder of Emma Barton. He later escaped on the day of his sentencing, leaving his life behind to go on the run.

In an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk, Thomas admitted he was unsure what happened to his character after departing six years ago. "I can't remember where he went to. I think he went to France? He was on the run," he tried to recall.

He added: "It was such a big part of my life and being able to work with some of my close friends who I'm still in touch with today, that was such a fun job."

So, could a return be on the cards? Will Adam be back with a French accent to boot? Well, Thomas shared that he would actually be interested in reprising his role, after gushing about how much he loved being on the show.

"I'm lucky that I get to do this for a living. I'd like to go back one day, it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I was a kid when I joined so I had some amazing memories there and I'd love to go back one day."

Thinking about how he'd fit back into the show, the Waterloo Road star hinted that it would be very possible for him to return. "I think my mum and my family are still in it and they've left the door open for me… you never know," he mused.

Speaking of family, Thomas seemed even more keen to bring Adam back when he found out that Matty Barton was arrested for accidentally stabbing Samson Dingle.

"Is he in prison?! No!" he said in disbelief, before decidedly adding: "I think I need to get back to Emmerdale."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
