Evacuation orders lifted in Calaveras County as containment of Aero Fire improves

(FOX40.COM) — Five days after an explosive day of wildfires in California due to dry and windy conditions forced many residents in southern Calaveras County to evacuate their homes, state fire officials say those orders have been lifted.

The Aero Fire sparked on Monday afternoon just north of the community of Copperopolis. In later days, that community and the surrounding area were under evacuation orders or warnings as the Aero Fire continued growing. Find updated evacuation advisories at this link.

CAL FIRE said throughout the week that the rough terrain in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada made it hard to fight the wildfire, one of the largest in the state so far this year.

On Friday at noon, CAL FIRE said that all evacuation orders had been lifted in Calaveras County, as well as all road closures in the area.
