Oakland driver kills bicyclist, drives away after crash: PD

(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist on Friday.

Just past midnight, police received calls of a serious injury collision involving a bicyclist by the 500 block of 105th Avenue Boulevard.

Officers arrived to find the male bicyclist “ejected from his bicycle” and unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene, police said.

Witnesses told police that a silver Saturn sedan was driving “at a high rate of speed” when it crashed into the bicyclist while traveling southbound on 105th Ave. near Nattress Way.

Witnesses told police that after the Saturn crashed into the bicyclist, the driver briefly stopped, removed the bike from under their car, “and then left the area, driving southbound,” police said.

Police said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, but OPD claims “speed was a factor.”

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Anyone with information is asked to contact OPD.
