FCPD: Man arrested for stealing police cruiser, injuring officers in chase

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man who stole a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) cruiser and led officers on a chase in Fair Oaks on Friday morning was arrested, officials said Saturday.

FCPD said that on Friday at about 11:35 a.m., they were informed of a stolen car near the Fair Oaks Mall.

An officer found the car parked at the mall with three people inside. The driver tried to walk away from the scene when the officer arrived.

He was identified as 46-year-old Kenton Smith of no fixed address.

While police tried to stop Smith, one of the passengers, identified as 30-year-old Eric Gutierrez of Ashland, left the car and stole the officer’s unmarked police cruiser.

Officers started a brief pursuit with Gutierrez after he failed to stop for police.

Gutierrez crashed into two police cruisers before he was taken into custody. He and two officers had non-life-threatening injuries due to the crash.

The other passenger, 28-year-old Natrua Mayfield-Jackson, of Maryland, and Smith were taken into custody at the mall.

Gutierrez was taken to the Adult Detention Center and was charged with two counts of Grand Larceny – Auto Theft, Grand Larceny and Felony Speed to Elude. He is being held without bond.

Mayfield-Jackson was taken to the Adult Detention Center and served with two outstanding warrants. She was held without bond.

Smith was charged with Unauthorized Use and Grand Larceny. He was being held on a $4,000 secured bond.
