FEMA activates CSFD members to aid fires in New Mexico

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) members were deployed on Friday, June 21 to assist the fires in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

According to CSFD, two members deployed at 4 a.m. on June 21 after FEMA activated Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1). Their primary function will be search and rescue efforts in the South Fork and Salt fires.

Both firefighters are deploying alongside Arizona Task Force 1.

The firefighters are a part of CO-TF1, the force’s main purpose is Urban Search and Rescue Operations for local, state, and national disasters. Seventeen CSFD members are a part of the force and are ready to deploy whenever and wherever help is needed.

CO-TF1 is supported by 23 departments in Colorado including CSFD.
