“Made the decision for us to be closed for right now until further notice so we can see what’s going on,” Tyler Salvation Army operations manager Darlene Rawlinson said.

The Tyler Fire Department said the fire started at their outdoor donation center then traveled inside but was contained by sprinklers.

“It was controlled on the interior four or five sprinkler heads went off and was able to control the interior,” Tyler Fire Department Battalion Chief David Admire said.

Rawlinson shared how she praised God that no one was there when the fire started. “So grateful to the first responders that got here and got everything taken care of quickly,” Rawlinson said.

Now, they are waiting for insurance adjusters to assess the destruction.

“There is smoke damage, and then in our backroom where our textile area is, it’s heavily smoke damaged and lots of water damage,” Rawlinson said.

The Salvation Army is now asking people to hold onto items they want to donate but said there are other ways to give.

“We are putting a QR code up if people want to give money to get the store back open as soon as possible,” Rawlinson said. “I’m telling you we’re going to be back here as soon as possible for sure so everybody’s ready to get back to work to get the store back open.”
