Fire at Lynchburg shooting range deemed not suspicious, says Campbell Co.

UPDATE, JUNE 19 3:55 P.M. LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– Campbell County Public Safety announced further details on the fire at the Lynchburg Arms & Indoor Shooting Range that occurred June 18, on Sunburst Road.

Public Safety says Campbell County dispatch received a call around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday about a structure fire at the shooting range. Crews from multiple surrounding departments including, the Campbell County Rescue Squad, the Lyn-Dan Heights Fire Department, and the Brookville/Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

A medic unit with Campbell County was the first on the scene and reported all employees and customers evacuated safely.

During the incident, additional crews from the Evington, Forest, and Rustburg Volunteer Fire Departments were called to assist with the scene. As crews worked to suppress the fire, two ladder trucks were able to extinguish the fire when the building’s roof began to fail.

Public Safety says units were on the scene for around five hours working the fire. There are currently no reports of any injuries during the incident.

Personnel from the Campbell County Fire Marshal’s Office returned to the shooting range to begin an investigation into the cause of the fire. Agents from Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms assisted with the fire investigation and provided resources for the range’s owner.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but they do not consider the fire to be suspicious.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg Fire and several surrounding departments in the area responded to a serious structure fire at Lynchburg Arms and Shooting Range on June 17.

In the early evening hours on Monday, LFD, Evington VFD, and Forest VFD were called to Sunburst Road in Lynchburg to find Lynchburg Arms and Shooting Range already on fire and collapsing.

Fire officials say flames eventually began burning through the roof which prompted an evacuation of the building.

Sunburst Road was closed while crews were on the scene for over three hours. The fire is still under investigation.

It is currently unknown whether the building can be salvaged or what caused the fire.
