Firefighters respond to landfill fire in Madison County

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Firefighters worked to contain a fire at a Madison County landfill.

Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Rescue, Central Volunteer Fire EMS and New Market Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a fire at the Madison County District 3 landfill, located off Homer Nance Road next to Mt. Carmel Elementary School.

Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Rescue said that although there was heavy smoke in the area, the fire posed no threat to the community.

As of 5:15 p.m., the Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Rescue said the fire is under control and that units are going back in service. The organization also said the smoke may linger for a while.
