Worcester is in store for two red, white and blue fireworks displays — and lots more color and music — ahead of July Fourth.

There will be a splash park, live music and fireworks as the city holds its Annual Independence Day Celebration Friday in Cristoforo Colombo Park, 180 Shrewsbury St.

The event is sponsored by Fallon Health, in partnership with Discover Central Massachusetts. The rain date is Saturday.

The free, family-friendly event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the park, also known as East Park. A food court as well as a splash park and playground will open at 4:30 p.m. and the Silver Arrow Band, a popular cover band from the Boston area, will perform at 5 p.m. Fireworks will be at 9:30 p.m. People are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs.

“We’ve been supporting this patriotic celebration for 30 years and are proud to keep the tradition going in 2024,” said Christine Cassidy, chief communications officer for Fallon Health, in an announcement.

“We are beyond excited to partner with Fallon Health once again to bring back the Worcester Independence Day Celebration," said Monique Joseph, president of Discover Central Massachusetts.

"The Independence Day Fireworks Celebration is a great community event that residents look forward to each year for the chance to come together and celebrate the 4th of July,” said Worcester City Manager Eric D. Batista. For more information, visit: discovercentralma.org/events/worcester-fireworks.

July 3, the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra will present fireworks at the conclusion of its free "Patriotic Pops" concert at Institute Park. The rain date is July 4 but fireworks will be unavailable for that date. The concert will start at 7:45 p.m. and primarily feature music by American composers including Irving Berlin, Aaron Copland, Morton Gould and John Williams.  The concert will also feature the world premiere of Jacob Samuel Snider’s “American Lapse.” Snider, who was born in Worcester, is a singer-songwriter and film composer based in Los Angeles. Guest vocalists will be soprano Jane Shivick and tenor Taylor Lawton. Fireworks will accompany Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and patriotic marches by John Philip Sousa. The orchestra has been playing summer concerts at Institute Park since 1951, but July 3 will be the first time fireworks have been part of the summer series there.
