Memphis Police Department continues to investigate the fatal shooting of Anthony “Big Jook” Mims five months after he was killed outside a Hickory Hill-area restaurant.

While the investigation is ongoing, no new details in the case have been released since January.

“There are no new updates at this time," MPD said in a statement to The Commercial Appeal this week.

The 47-year old Mims, brother of Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, was a high-profile figure involved with Gotti's record label, CMG, home to notable rap artists including Moneybagg Yo and GloRilla, among others.

Mims' death on Jan. 13 became the latest in a series of hip-hop murders over the last two years since the killing of Gotti/CMG rival Young Dolph in South Memphis.

Big Jook's death: Everything we know

The shooting took place outside a restaurant where Mims was attending a repass, following the funeral of a relative, Eric Bovan. Bovan — a well-known Memphis cocaine kingpin in the 1980s and head of the Bovan Family — was a former partner of the aunt of Yo Gotti and Big Jook.

According to the Memphis Police Department, an officer was in the area of 6385 Winchester Road around 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 13 when he heard gunshots. The officer went to the location and found two victims with multiple gunshot wounds, both of whom were transported to the hospital. Mims was identified as the victim who was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Memphis Police Department released this image of a vehicle they believe to be connected with a fatal shooting Jan. 13 on Winchester Road. The shooting left Anthony Mims dead and another male victim injured.

Immediate after the shooting, Memphis Police said they were analyzing video but did not have a suspect identified at that time. A day later police confirmed that a witness on the scene said suspects in a white SUV were responsible for the shooting. The vehicle is a white Ford Explorer with black wheels and dark tinted windows, and images of it were captured on surveillance video, released by MPD.

Since then, MPD has not released any new information on the case.

What has Yo Gotti said about Big Jook's death?

Yo Gotti has not commented publicly on the death of his brother. Though he made a surprise concert appearance in Detroit in late January at a show by CMG artist 42 Dugg, Gotti is largely retired from performing and focused more on running operations for CMG.

He was featured in a Forbes magazine story in February that estimated Gotti — who in addition to heading the CMG label owns a share of MLS franchise D.C. United and Memphis restaurant Prive — is worth around $100 million.

Gotti has only posted on social media sporadically since January, mostly touting new projects from CMG label artists including Moneybagg Yo, whose much anticipated LP, “Speak Now,” is set for release on Friday, three years after his chart-topping LP, “A Gangsta’s Pain.”
