FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Florence woman is being charged with calling in a bomb threat to a beauty school, deputies said.

Demarie Jessalyn Nichole Spontis, 23, was booked into the Florence County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. Authorities say that on Monday, deputies responded to Canvas Artistry at 1428 Floyd Circle to follow up on a phone threat.

Deputies cleared the scene with help from a K-9 unit and determined it was a hoax. Officials said Spontis was helped by an unnamed co-conspirator. The incident remains under investigation, and more arrests are possible.

Under state law, making a bomb threat is a felony punishable by between one and 10 years in prison.
