Former U.S. Surgeon General speaks at OHSU ceremony

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Graduation season is underway across the Pacific Northwest and some prominent guest speakers are taking to the stage, including a trailblazing physician.

Dr. Joycelyn Elders served as the 15th U.S. Surgeon General from 1993 and 1994 and was the first Black American in the role.

Over the weekend, Dr. Elders appeared at the hooding ceremony for the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health.

Before she left Portland, Dr. Elders dropped by AM Extra for a chat.
