Fresno State men have another game postponed due to COVID; this time it’s the other team

The Fresno State Bulldogs have had a third game in a row postponed due to COVID-19, this time due to concerns at Wyoming, which was to play on Saturday at the Save Mart Center.

The game is the fifth of 10 on the Mountain West Conference schedule this week that has been postponed – Wyoming at Nevada and Boise State at Utah State on Tuesday are off, as are Fresno State at San Diego State and UNLV at San Jose State on Wednesday and the Bulldogs’ game against the Cowboys.

Last week, only four of nine scheduled conference games were played.

The teams that have been hit with COVID-19 issues: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Jose State and Wyoming,

The Bulldogs (10-4, 0-1 in the MW), who had a New Year’s Day game against Air Force and a Wednesday game at San Diego State postponed due to COVID-19 concerns in their program, are next scheduled to play on Tuesday against San Jose State at the Save Mart Center. That would be the conference opener for the Spartans, who had their first three games postponed due to COVID-19.

Wyoming, which went 11-2 in its non-conference games, also has not yet played a Mountain West contest.

Under the conference’s adjusted COVID-19 game cancellation policy for men’s and women’s basketball, a minimum of seven student-athletes and one countable coach must be available for a school to play a game. The conference will try to reschedule postponed games, but if a workable date cannot be found for the two teams the game will be canceled and declared a no contest.

If a team has a requisite number of players and chooses not to play the game shall be canceled and declared a forfeit, with a loss to the team that opts not to play and a win for the scheduled opponent in the conference standings and determining seeding for the Mountain West Tournament in March.
