NOLAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Nolan County was hit by a storm that rolled through Monday afternoon, which brought hail, hefty winds, and threats of vehicle and structure damage. The cities of Roscoe and Sweetwater seemingly took on the most damage.

FORECAST: Severe weather hits the Big Country

Kim Sanchez from Roscoe had her tree taken out by the storm, hitting a vehicle.

“It was raining really hard and there was hail,” Sanchez described.

KTAB/KRBC spoke with Christina Hernandez, who said she braved the elements to come to her mother’s rescue during the storm.

“We couldn’t see in front of us… As soon as we got here (her mother’s home), we saw the huge tree,” said Hernandez. “And then the power lines bust, and then they break.”

Across Nolan County, nearly 200 Oncor customers lost power, according to the US power outage map.

When that happened, Hernandez said she did as she was told by the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department (VFD): They stayed right where they were.

Thankfully, Hernandez’ mother had some helpers to take care of the tree in her yard.

Just up the road, a storage building in Sweetwater was leveled by the storm.

A witness told KTAB/KRBC the wind picked the building up and flipped it off its foundation.
