Millions of voters across London will go to the polls on July 4 to elect the new Government. The Standard looks at key battleground and other seats in the capital, and has published an interactive map. Here we turn the spotlight on:

CROYDON WEST

Candidates for main parties (in alphabetical order):

Simon Fox - Conservatives

Jahir Hussain - Liberal Democrats

Sarah Jones - Labour Party

Vinayak Malhotra - Reform UK

Ria Patel - Green Party

Summary:

Rewind to 1950 to 1955 and the constituency of Croydon West had a short previous existence, held for its five years by Conservative Richard Thompson.

Big boundary changes have affected the Croydon area for this election.

So, this new Croydon West seat now includes a chunk of the former constituency of Croydon North, as well as Croydon town centre and Waddon.

At the 2019 election, Labour’s Steve Reed won Croydon North with a huge 24,673 majority.

Croydon West is being contested by Labour’s Sarah Jones, who won Croydon Central in 2019 with a far smaller majority, of 5,949.

Mr Reed has moved to fight Streatham and Croydon North, admittedly all rather confusing.

Area: This constituency includes the wards of Bensham Manor, Broad Green, Fairfield, Selhurst, South Norwood, Waddon, West Thornton, and Woodside (part of).

Boundary changes impact (Thrasher and Rallings analysis): Sarah Jones won Croydon Central by 50.2 per cent of the vote in 2019, with the Tories getting 39.2 per cent and Lib Dems 6.5 per cent. In the new seat of Croydon West the result would have been 66.7 per cent Labour, 21.5 per cent Conservative and seven per cent Lib Dem.

YouGov MRP poll prediction: Labour hold

Evening Standard view: Labour’s Sarah Jones looks like a boundary changes winner as she is contesting this safe seat for the party, having previously won the marginal of Croydon Central by just under 6,000 votes five years ago.
