GoFundMe set up for fallen Jackson County process server Drexel Mack’s family

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family of fallen Jackson County civil process server Drexel Mack.

Mack was killed in a shooting in Independence Thursday while trying to serve an eviction. Independence Officer Cody Allen was also killed in the shooting, and two other officers were injured.

Mack had been with the Jackson County court for over 12 years.

He was a father, brother and soon to be husband. His fiancée has three kids, who his colleagues say he loved as his own.

Those who knew Drexel, who went by Mack, are starting to share their stories about him and the impact he made on the community.

Georgia Youngblood worked with Drexel Mack who she called “Big Mack” for nearly a decade.

“I always just knew him as Mack. That’s what I would call him, and then a couple years after I got to know him I just, Big Mack is what stuck to me,” she said.

Youngblood assisted Mack on evictions. Since Mack handled process serving for her former company “Yes, Communities.”

“He was such a sweet, kind person. Just a big teddy bear,” she said.

“My brother was loved by everyone who had the great pleasure of coming in contact with him,” Mack’s sister Helen Lightbourne said on GoFundme.

“Everyone is completely shocked by the news of his passing. He did his job as a civil process server for over a decade and knew and excepted the risk of working, but he loved his job, he did it to the best of his ability.”

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the family of fallen Officer Cody Allen.

Kansas City-area law enforcement respond after officer, process server killed

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday charged Larry D. Acree, 69, with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree assault.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Acree is currently in the hospital but will be transferred to the jail and held on a $2 million cash-only bond.
