Gold Cross releases statement following employee incident

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Two Gold Cross EMS employees have been fired after a recent incident, according to a news release from the organization.

The release states that “after a preliminary internal investigation and speaking with the two employees involved, we have decided the best course of action is immediate termination for policy violations.”

A message sent to employees and obtained by WJBF stated that, on June 17th, a “potentially intoxicated” off-duty employee was found removing items from an on-duty 911 ambulance for personal use. The message continued on to say that the second employee assisted the first employee with transportation to the station.

“(Gold Cross) can assure you that it only involved the two employees,” the official news release stated. “No patients or other employees were hurt or involved – there is no current risk to the community in reference to any incident.”

“Gold Cross has been providing quality emergency medical services in the CSRA for nearly 20 years, every now and then there will be a bump in the road,” said Gold Cross EMS PIO and Director of Business Development Michael Meyers. “It is unfortunate that we have employees that sometimes make bad decisions. I pray that they get the help that they need and thank the community for your continued support.”

Gold Cross has turned the matter over to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
