Gov. Kay Ivey to cut ribbon at USS Alabama Teak Deck Replacement Ceremony

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park officials are welcoming Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday as they host the Teak Deck Replacement Project Completion Ceremony.

Gov. Ivey will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony in the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavillion at 11 a.m.

After the ceremony, Gov. Ivey will be cutting the ribbon at the bottom of the battleship’s gangway, according to the news release.

In 2021, the deck on the battleship began being replaced. The project was expected to be completed in October of 2024 but contracting crews finished the project seven months earlier, according to the release.
