Hawkins treasurer charged with trying to steal $100k from village

HAWKINS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A Hawkins woman is charged for trying to steal nearly $100,000 from the village. According to the criminal complaint, 79-year-old Marcia Lyons, who was the treasurer for the village of Hawkins, has been charged with theft in a business setting, and misconduct of office. An investigation showed on April 29th Lyons transferred $67,000 from the library’s account and $33,000 from a relative’s account into her own.

When interviewed, Lyons said she was going to borrow the money for a couple to buy gold, and then return it. An initial court appearance is set for July 16th.
