HEAP Cooling Assistance Component benefit applications to open Monday, April 15

N.Y. (WETM) – The 2023-2024 Home Energy Assistance Program Cooling Assistance Component benefit will be open for applications beginning on April 15.

Applications for assistance will be accepted from Monday, April 15, until Friday, Aug. 30, or until funding for this component runs out.

CAC benefits are available to households that are HEAP eligible and contain at least one person with a documented medical condition that is worsened by extreme heat, as noted by a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner.

Those who can’t obtain the required documentation in the timeframe that is requested can attest that a household member has a medical condition that worsens in heat and is having a hard time getting the medical documentation.

Households that have a family member who is vulnerable based on their age, being either an adult that is 60 or older or children under 6, and also meet other eligibility criteria can receive a CAC benefit without a medical need.
