Heat advisory in effect for region

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect from noon Tuesday to 8 p.m. Thursday for Luzerne, Lackawanna, Bradford, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties.

Heat index values up to 104 are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause illness.

Today's high is expected to reach 90 degrees. Tuesday's high is 96. Wednesday's high is 94 and on Thursday and Friday the high is 97.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
