Elmira, N.Y. (WETM)- The heat wave continues today with more areas seeing 90s this afternoon, and likely feeling even hotter than that. When can we anticipate a cooldown? Details below:

A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Twin Tiers

TODAY:

We continue under our area of high pressure/heat dome today with a return to mostly sunny skies. As fog gradually lifts through the mid-morning, we could see a few more clouds hanging on throughout the rest of the morning. Skies are mostly sunny by this afternoon. Chances for showers this evening are lower than yesterday, but they still can’t be ruled out with all the heat and moisture in place. Temperatures are hot again today topping off in the mid-90s but may feel like 100°.

TONIGHT:

Most should be mainly quiet tonight. If any showers pop up they should be mainly short-lived as we lose the heat from the daytime. However, clouds gradually build in overnight ahead of better chances for showers tomorrow. Lows tonight are in the low 70s.

REST OF THE WEEK:

Our heat wave continues throughout the rest of the week. We will see a similar pattern each day with daytime sunshine heating us up to the 90s and chances for isolated showers/storms in the evening. By Thursday and into the weekend, more widespread rain chances return.
