Heat wave impacts events across the DMV

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — As the heat wave continues to push across the DMV, several events have announced that it has canceled or postponed.

But despite the heat, a few events are still happening. Here is a list of what’s going on.

Maryland

The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department has announced that the following events have been suspended:

  • Boating at Black Hill Regional Park and Rock Creek Regional Park

  • The driving range at South Germantown Recreational Park
    (Golf classes will be rescheduled.)

  • Archery classes at South Germantown Recreational Park will be rescheduled.

  • The miniature trains at Cabin John Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park (An exception for birthday parties scheduled for train rides will be made.)

  • The carousel at Wheaton Regional Park

‘Portside in Old Town Summer Festival’ canceled due to extreme heat emergency

Virginia

Portside in Old Town Summer Festival: Event organizers announced that the ALX Jazz Fest set for Saturday, June 22 was canceled due to the extreme heat emergency.

Amazon HQ2 Community Day: Amazon’s HQ2 Community Day was scheduled for June 22 at 9 a.m. This event was postponed. As of Friday, a new date has not been announced.

Prince George’s County Parks and Recreations: All outdoor events scheuled for June 22 are canceled. Cooling centers have been established throughout the county and all six indoor pools and seven outdoor pools will remain open.

Washington, D.C.

Chinatown Park Festival: The 2024 Chinatown Park Festival was postponed to June 29. The festival will take place at I Street NW, the corner of 5th and Mass. Avenue.

Brunch and Beats: Event organizers announced that Brunch & Beats, which was set to happen on June 23, has been canceled due to the excessive heat advisory. The next Brunch and Beats will take place on Sunday, June 30.
