Here's the buzz: Canton getting ready to do mosquito spraying to combat bugs

CANTON – Mosquito spraying will occur in the following areas, according to the Canton City Public Health Department:

  • Friday: southeast Canton, with east boundary of city limits, north boundary of Tuscarawas Street, west boundary of Market Avenue, and south boundary of city limits.

  • June 24-26: northwest Canton, with east boundary of Market Avenue, north boundary of city limits west boundary of city limits, and south boundary of Tuscarawas Street.

  • June 27-28: southwest Canton, with east boundary of Market Avenue, north boundary of Tuscarawas Street, west boundary of city limits, and south boundary of city limits.

  • July 1-2: northeast area of Canton, with east boundary of city limits, north boundary of city limits, west boundary of Market Avenue, and south boundary of Tuscarawas Street.

Spraying will be from 9 p.m. until midnight. In case of rain, windy conditions or low temperatures on any of the above scheduled dates, spraying will be rescheduled.

To reduce mosquitoes and mosquito bites, city residents should remove items from yards that can collect and hold water such as old tires, cans, buckets and bottles, and protect themselves by limiting time outdoors during peak mosquito activity (dusk to dawn) and using an approved insect repellant when outdoors.
