Hot Tub Electrocution Victim's Widow Speaks Out After Husband's Tragic Death

Lizette Zambrano and her husband Jorge Guillen were meant to have a relaxing vacation in Mexico earlier this month. Their excitement turned to horror after they were electrocuted in a hot tub, leaving Guillen dead and Zambrano in mourning.

Now, the victim's widow is speaking out about what happened. Zambrano sat down with Good Morning America on June 21 to recount the harrowing incident and share the grief she's been dealing with.

"The last thing I remember him saying is 'Oh s--t.' And it's the same time that I felt the first electric shock, and then it happened over and over and over, and I didn't hear him again," she said through tears.

Zambrano has already filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages against Casago, the company through which they booked their stay Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Peñasco. She alleged that faulty wiring sent a live current into the water and no employees used the emergency shut-off switch for the jacuzzi.

"I feel that this could have been prevented," Zambrano told GMA. "I still can't believe it. A very good man was taken away."

The rescue was just as scary as the initial incident, as bystanders tried to save them but were similarly zapped thanks to some metal objects. "A lot of people jumped in, but they kept jumping out because the shocks were so strong," Zambrano said. When she was pulled out of the hot tub, she had no pulse, but she was quickly given CPR and taken to a hospital where she regained consciousness.

"I want somebody to take accountability for what happened to my husband and myself," she stated plainly.

Casago responded to Guillen's tragic death in a statement.

"We are devastated by what has occurred and our hearts are with the family and the victims of this terrible incident," the company said, per Inside Edition. "The Sonoran Sea is a condo resort and the homeowners association is responsible for all common areas, including the maintenance of the swimming pool, hot tubs, and grounds. Casago, a vacation rental company, is not involved in any management or maintenance of the resort. Regarding this incident, our involvement ends at the individual condo reservation."

"Our understanding is that the formal investigation of the incident is already underway," they added. "While we have no involvement in the maintenance or repair of common areas at the resort, we will continue to cooperate fully if there’s anything we can offer."
