New housing, business in the works

Jun. 21—The Greensburg Redevelopment Commission voted earlier this month to begin working on an agreement with Iron Men, a developer, to build apartments at the former Decatur County Jail site at the corner of S. Broadway and Railroad streets.

City of Greensburg engineer Zach Wirrig confirmed the commission is working with a developer and negotiations have started.

If finalized and approved, the project will see a three to four story apartment complex holding between 60 and 80 units constructed at the site.

These will be market-rate apartments, and if everything is approved and construction remains on schedule, the project will most likely be completed by late 2025.

The Redevelopment Commission also sold property at 181 E. Veterans Way to Versailles-based Forge Fitness.

Forge intends to use the land for a second fitness center and anticipates closing on the property on June 19.

Forge has begun talking to architects and builders to move forward, according to Wirrig.
