Houston Fire Department officials said when they arrived, they found the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities said the call came in as potentially a person trapped inside the house. A mother, grandmother, and four kids aged four to 9-years-old.

When authorities arrived, they found the mother, grandmother, and three of the children already outside of the house.

The mother reported to firefighters that she had a child inside of the house.

Firefighters went into the house and tried to rescue the child. However, the 7-year-old boy died on the scene.

The grandmother had second degree burns to her arms and back and was taken to the hospital. The mother and the three other kids were said to be OK.

Authorities said when they attempted to enter the home, there were burglar bars in the front of the house, so firefighters had to enter through a side window to extinguish the fire and to find the little boy.

Firefighters added there was also a partial roof collapse and one firefighter's foot did go through the roof. However, that firefighter is OK.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by Houston Fire Department Arson investigators.
