Hurricane center back to tracking just 1 Gulf of Mexico system

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a system in the Gulf of Mexico that has a chance to develop over the weekend.

The system is a broad area of low pressure forecast forming over the Bay of Campeche off the coast of Mexico that is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

As of 2 p.m, the NHC gives the system a 40% chance to form over the next two to seven days.

“Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system as it moves slowly
west-northwestward or northwestward, and a tropical depression could form before the system reaches the coast of northeastern Mexico Sunday night,” NHC said.

If the system gains enough steam to develop into a tropical storm, it would become Tropical Storm Beryl.
