Local news anchor responds to online bullying

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Josephine Saige, KREX News evening news and weather anchor, was shocked after logging onto Facebook Tuesday night, only to be greeted by a humiliating and degrading post in a closed community board. The post highlighted not only what she was wearing, but also her looks and her weight in a demeaning way.

Saige took it upon herself to not only address that all on-air talent are subject to some sort of criticism, but this type of online bullying is inappropriate, especially for our younger generations. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and 37% of children associate depression with online bullying.

She left viewers with this: “Adults, should lead by example and lead the charge to stop hate by monitoring their own online behavior”.

Even though Saige and most adults don’t take cyber bullying seriously, children can because they may not know any better. We lead the younger generation, so take action now and stop online bullying in your own communities.
