Indictment alleges Silver State Health Services CEO misused federal grant funds
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An executive accused of siphoning $340,000 from a federal grant was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada.
David Ryan Linden, 35, CEO of Silver State Health Services LLC, is accused of stealing funding intended for the services for indigent persons. The company is a not-for-profit limited liability corporation in Las Vegas.
The indictment alleges Linden secured a grant for $735,200 from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to pay for projected personnel costs for a health center. But almost half that money — $357,000 — was deposited into a Silver State Health Services bank account on June 10, 2019. Six days later, Linden became a signatory on a bank account for Freedom Infusions, LLC, a company not affiliated with the grant or Silver State. On June 24, 2019, Linden transferred $340,000 of the grant funds to the Freedom Infusions account.
“The $340,000 was allegedly used for the benefit of others,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
A jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2024, before U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey. Linden could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans for the FBI made the announcement.
The FBI and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorneys Steven Myhre and Justin Washburne are prosecuting the case.
