JCPSF hosts ‘Spell-A-Bration’ as 4th annual fundraising event; funds will buy smart TVs

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) -The Johnson City Public Schools Foundation (JCPSF) hosted ‘Spell-A-Bration’ at Science Hill High School as its fourth annual fundraising event on Thursday.

JCPSF hosts an annual fundraiser for special projects that the regular school budget does not cover.

Spell-A-Bration was a spelling bee for adults in which teams of four worked together to spell words on a whiteboard. The teams competed under creative team names while dressed in costumes.

Nearly 4,000 students head to ETSU to learn about prospective careers

News Channel 11 spoke with Tembra Aldridge, president of JCPSF:

“It’s just made up of businesses, schools, just all kinds of people throughout the community. And we have a blast. They come up with creative names, and they dress accordingly,” Aldridge said. “And then, of course, they decorate their tables. So we give prizes to the winners, as well as the best table decorations and the best costumes.”

This year, the event funded ViewSonic smart TVs, which the foundation will distribute throughout the Johnson City school system.

“As a teacher, my ViewSonic smart TV has revolutionized my classroom, offering an array of benefits for both me and my students,” said digital media teacher and JCS teacher leader Stephanie Elliott in a release in February.

Aldridge told News Channel 11 that the annual fundraising events generate the most profit.

All Spell-A-Bration registration fees will go towards future JCPSF projects. In the past, JCPSF has funded Indian Trail and Liberty Bell Middle School’s digital communications lab, the Science Hill A-V studio and a STEAM bus.
