Jefferson Parish Public Schools to dismiss early for solar eclipse
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish Public Schools will be dismissing early on Monday, April 8, ahead of the solar eclipse.
According to the Jefferson Parish Schools website, the early dismissal will allow for students to get home safely, as watching a solar eclipse without the proper eye protection could cause harm to the eyes.
Jefferson Parish Public Schools officials said the solar eclipse is expected to be visible from the United States from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., which is during the dismissal times of about 80% of Jefferson Parish Public Schools.
They said students will follow a modified, half-day schedule.

School officials also said, “Parents may choose not to send their child or children to school that Monday because of safety concerns or because they want their child to experience the eclipse with the family at home. If so, this will be an excused absence.”
