Justin Timberlake has been charged with driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island.

The Cry Me A River singer was arrested in the early hours of the morning in the wealthy village of Sag Harbor in New York, SAG Harbor Village Police Department told the PA news agency.

Sources reportedly told TMZ that the singer, 43, was pulled over by police around 12.30am on Tuesday after having dinner with friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor.

A police spokesperson confirmed he had been arrested for driving while intoxicated.

According to reports, Timberlake was arraigned on one count of DWI and also cited for running a stop sign and for failure to stay in his lane.

He is next in court on July 26 after being released without bail.

For refusing the breathalyser test, Timberlake had his driving privileges in the state of New York suspended.

The department is expected to release a formal statement later on Tuesday.

A source told MailOnline: “Justin was out to dinner with friends and there were cop cars stationed outside the restaurant, like there are most nights.

“They look for people who are leaving after midnight who might have been drinking.”

A statement, seen by the PA news agency, said: “On June 18 2024, at 12.37am, Justin R Timberlake, age 43, of Tennessee, was observed operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel.

“A traffic stop was initiated by a Police Officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.

“Mr Timberlake was placed under arrest, processed, and held overnight for morning arraignment.

“Mr Timberlake was arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on June 18 2024 at 9.30am, where he was released on his own recognisance.”

An officer who stopped him described his eyes as being “bloodshot and glassy” and said a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath”, according to a court document.

“He was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the court papers added.

Timberlake, 43, is due to perform two shows in Chicago this week before two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York next week.

He is also expected to travel to cities including Boston, Baltimore, and Cleveland for The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.

The European leg, which begins in Krakow, Poland on July 26, includes performances in Birmingham, Manchester and two dates at The O2 in London this August.

A young Timberlake was a Disney Mouseketeer, where his castmates included future girlfriend Britney Spears. He rose to fame in the popular boy band NSYNC and embarked on a solo recording career in 2002.

As an actor, Timberlake has won acclaim in movies including The Social Network and Friends With Benefits.

He has won ten Grammy awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards.

Last year, Timberlake was in the headlines when Spears released her memoir, The Woman in Me.

Several chapters are devoted to their relationship, including deeply personal details about a pregnancy, abortion and painful breakup.

In March, he released his first new album in six years, the nostalgic Everything I Thought It Was, a return to his familiar future funk sound.

Timberlake's representatives did not immediately return requests for comment from the Associated Press or the Standard.
