Kayaker dies after ‘incident’ with Ferry on Willamette River

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A kayaker is dead following what authorities are calling an “incident” involving the Buena Vista Ferry in Polk County.

According to Polk County Fire District, just after 5:00 p.m., Thursday crews responded to a water rescue on the Willamette River where Jacob Anthony Jacksonof Monmouth was found dead.

Mr. Jackson became trapped under the ferry and failed to resurface.

“The Linn County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded to the location and found after Mr. Jackson had fallen out of his kayak, his clothing had become entangled in the propeller, drowning as a result,” officials said.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Linn County dive team. The investigation is ongoing.
